Work starts on two solar power plants in Phu Yen

Phu Yen (VNA) – Phu Khanh Solar Power JSC and competent agencies of the central province of Phu Yen held a ceremony in Xuan Tho 1 commune, Song Cau district on January 8 to begin the construction of Xuan Tho 1 and  Xuan Tho 2 solar power plants.

With total investment of nearly 1.24 trillion VND (53.32 million USD), the Xuan Tho 1 project covers about 60 hectares in Xuan Tho 1 commune, Song Cau district. Meanwhile, the 60-ha Xuan Tho 2 plant will be built a a cost of more than 1.23 trillion VND (52.89 million USD) in Xuan Tho 2 commune, Song Cau district.

Each project has a designed capacity of over 49.6 MW and an annual output of about 76.2 million kWH. Both are expected to be put into commercial operation on June 30, 2019.

According to Tran Huu The, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, the Xuan Tho 1 and Xuan Tho 2 plants will create momentum for the locality to raise its budget collection and generate jobs for labourers.

With 2,467 hours of sunshine and average solar radiation of over 1,700 kWh per sq.m, Phu Yen boasts advantages to attract clean energy projects. To date, six solar power projects have been licensed in the province.

Vietnam is amongst the sunniest countries in the world, with the Central Highlands and south central regions recording between 2,000 and 2,600 hours of sunshine every year, reported the Vietnam Clean Energy Association.

Average solar radiation is about 2,000 to 5,000 hours per year. However, despite the nation’s great natural advantages, solar power has not yet been harnessed to maximise its full potential. –VNA
