World Vision helps Thanh Hoa reduce disaster impacts

World Vision will provide over 1.1 million USD for the central coastal province of Thanh Hoa to improve its capacity in natural disaster risk prevention and mitigation.

T he information was released at a seminar on Oct. 25 to launch the Coastal Areas of Thanh Hoa province Resilient to Natural Disasters (CATREND) project.

CATREND aims at helping communities in coastal and estuary areas in Hoang Hoa and Quang Xuong districts to reduce vulnerability and adverse socio-economic impacts of natural disasters by linking disaster preparedness with mitigation and climate change adaptation measures in a comprehensive way.

According to Director of World Vision Vietnam , Thanh Hoa area, CATREND project will conduct many activities, such as preparing information and communication documents, organising seminars and training courses as well as supporting radio and television programmes on communitiy-based natural disaster mitigation.

In addition to the project, Word Vision has conducted development programmes in seven disadvantaged mountainous districts in Thanh Hoa.
The organisation is also implementing a project to improve living conditions for children in the province./.
