Hanoi (VNA) – President of the Vietnam Writers’ Association (VWA) HuuThinh has called on Vietnamese writers, both at home and abroad, to use thepower of literature to strengthen the national solidarity.

Thinh madethe call at the opening of a meeting in Hanoi on October 20 that gathered morethan 100 writers at home and from 12 countries around the world. The first-everevent was themed “Writers with the mission of fostering national solidarity”.

The VWAsaid that working for national unity will give more power and freedom to writersin seeking new ideas.

He stressedthat the VWA always considers the literature life of the Vietnamese communityabroad as an inseparable part of the country’s literature.

Over thepast years, the association has introduced and published many works of overseasVietnamese writers, while holding events to promote Vietnamese literatureabroad, he noted.

Thinhsaid that the meeting aims to promote writers’ social responsibility inconnecting the Vietnamese community at home and abroad to preserve and promote thetradition of patriotism and create a collaboration mechanism between thewriters and the association as well as encourage them to create more works servingthe people and culture development of Vietnam.

He alsoexpressed hope that the event will open a new chapter in the unity ofVietnamese writers from all walks of life to make common contributions to thegrowth of Vietnamese literature.

Withinthe framework of the five-day meeting, delegates will visit the Vietnam Museumof Literature and the Hung Kings’ Temple in Phu Tho and Ha Long Bay in QuangNinh.-VNA
