Phnom Penh (VNA) – The Cambodian Interior Ministry on May 3 announced that new regulations of the opposition Cambodian National Rescue Party (CNRP) have been accepted.

The regulations consist of nine chapters and 58 articles, relating to the party’s vice president election.

It was submitted to the Interior Ministry on April 26 following its extraordinary general meeting on April 25.

Earlier in March, CNRP organised a meeting to select new leaders after the resignation of ex-leader Sam Rainsy on February 11. Accordingly, former vice president Kem Sokha ascended to the party presidency while lawmakers Pol Ham, Mu Sochua and Eng Chhay Eang were elected as vice presidents.

However, the Interior Ministry on March 23 claimed that the elections were not recognised as they breached a clause of the CNRP’s regulations and asked the party to follow their regulations. -VNA
