O Mon I power plant’s second turbine to operate in Q4

The second turbine of the O Mon I thermal power plant will begin generating commercial electricity in the fourth quarter of this year, according to the management board of the O Mon Power Centre.

The operation of the 330MW turbine will meet the south’s growing power demand in upcoming years.

At present, Daelim-Sojitz contractor joint venture has fulfilled its set target of 98.94 percent of workload, said the board.

The first turbine, also with a capacity of 330MW, was put into operation in July 2009.

The management board said it is also implementing the O Mon III and IV power plants as well as phase I of the Cong Hai 1 wind power plant.

According the plan approved by the Prime Minister, the O Mon Power Centre, which is located in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho, will have four thermal power plants with a combined capacity of 2,700MW.-VNA
