Phu Quoc welcomes over 1.5 million visitors in Q1

Phu Quoc island city in the Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang welcomed more than 1.5 million visitors in the first quarter of 2023, a rise of 43% year on year.

In the period, the city earned some 120 million USD from tourism activities, up 286% over the same period last year, equivalent to nearly 40% of the yearly plan.

The city attributed the result to effective measures to speed up tourism recovery and development and tourism promotion activities.

Phu Quoc is known as the ‘pearl island,' endowed with clear blue water beaches such as Bai Sao and Bai Dai, and plenty of local specialties including seafood, pepper and pearls, among others.

It also has well-known destinations including the busy Duong Dong town, Ham Ninh and Ganh Dau fishing villages, and other attractive tourist points.

Phu Quoc has also attracted many big tourism investors such as Vingroup, Sungroup, CEO, BIM. To date, it is hosting 286 tourism projects worth some 16 billion USD, of which 47 has been operational and 78 are under construction.

Last year, it was selected one of 25 best islands in the world by readers of US magazine Travel Leisure./.
