Phnom Penh (VNA) – Thai army chief General Chalermchai Sitthisart met with Cambodia’s Prime Minister Hun Sen and Minister of National Defence, General Tea Banh on December 19.

This is the first Cambodia visit of General Chalermchai as Thailand’s army chief.

According to Cambodian Prime Minister spokesman Eang Sophalleth, during the meeting with Hun Sen, General Chalermchai vowed to promote Thailand-Cambodia military relations and cooperation, for the benefit of people of both countries.

For his part, Prime Minister Hun Sen stressed the importance of enhancing army cooperation of the two countries to ensure peace, security and development along their shared border.

He also encouraged the two armies to closely cooperate in tackling transnational criminals.

Earlier the same day, General Chalermchai held talks with General Tea Banh, discussing measures to promote relations of the two countries’ armies.

General Chalermchai was assigned as Thailand’s army chief in September after General Teerachai Narkvanich retired.-VNA
