11 victims of collapsed tunnel incident fully recover

Eleven out of 12 workers used to be trapped in a collapsed tunnel of the Da Dang-Da Chomo hydropower plant in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong fully recovered and were discharged from hospital on December 22.

All the 12 workers are in stable health, however,the only woman Dinh Thi Hong Ngoc will continue staying here for furthercare, said Director of the Lam Dong General Hospital Nguyen Ba Hy.

OnDecember 21, Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Kim Tien asked the People’sCommittees of the provinces of Ha Nam, Nam Dinh, Vinh Phuc, Nghe An, HaTinh, and Lam Dong, where the workers hail from, to assist theirfamilies.

Hy also said that a company committed to covering the victims’ traveling costs to their hometowns.

Over the last few days, a number of State agencies and private organisations have delivered support to the workers.

Partof the tunnel collapsed at 7:30am on December 16, trapping 12 workers.They were brought out of the tunnel at 4:30 pm on December 19 afternon-stop rescue efforts of more than 500 people.

Work on the Da Dang-Da Chomo project in Lac Duong district kicked off in2003. The 475 billion VND (22.6 million USD) plant, invested by theCivil Engineering Construction Corp. No. 5 (CIENCO 5), is designed tohave a capacity of 22 MW.-VNA
