Dong Thap (VNA) – TheMekong Delta province of Dong Thap held a ceremony on December 20 to presentposthumously the noble State title of “Heroic Vietnamese Mother” to 84 localwomen whose husband and children laid down their lives in the struggle fornational liberation and protection.

With the recognition, the provincecurrently has a total of 1,868 heroic mothers.

Addressing the ceremony, Vice Chairmanof the Dong Thap People’s Committee Doan Tan Buu stressed that the province overthe years has focused on taking care of people who rendered services to thenation, including the heroic mothers. The work also helps foster patriotism amonglocal people, especially youths.

According to the Ministry of Labour, WarInvalids and Social Affairs, more than nine million people have to date beenrecognised as revolutionary contributors, including 1.2 million war martyrs,127,000 heroic mothers and 800,000 war invalids.-VNA
