- Party General Secretary To Lam and State President Luong Cuong on February 2 attended a ceremony to inaugurate the renovated, upgraded and newly built headquarters of the Presidential Office at No. 2 Le Thach Street – the historic Bac Bo Phu site in Hanoi.
The inauguration, which marked the 96th founding anniversary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (February 3, 1930–2026) and the success of the 14th National Party Congress, also drew incumbent and former leaders of the Party and State, representatives of ministries and central agencies, and leaders of Hanoi. - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended the opening of the first Glorious Spring Fair 2026 themed “Connecting Prosperity – Welcoming a Glorious Spring” at the Vietnam Exposition Centre (VEC) in Hanoi’s outlying Dong Anh commune on February 2, urging it to become a national consumer festival.
In his speech, PM Chinh described the fair as a follow-on to the exhibition on national achievements marking 80 years of the journey of independence – freedom – happiness, which drew unprecedented scale and attention. He also cited a series of major events at the VEC, including the country’s first “national mega fair” - the Autumn Fair 2025. Read full story
- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has called on ministries, ministerial-level agencies, government-affiliated bodies and localities to step up coordination to ensure that people across the country enjoy a safe, well-supplied and orderly Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday 2026.
In an official dispatch signed on February 1, the PM stressed that thorough preparations are needed so that all citizens can welcome the new year in a joyful, healthy, economical and safe manner, in line with the Party and government’s directions on organising Tet. Read full story
- National Assembly (NA) Chairman Tran Thanh Man on February 2 chaired a ceremony to present 45-year and 30-year Party membership badges to members of the NA Party Committee.
At the event, Chairman Man, who is also Politburo member and Secretary of the NA Party Committee, presented the 45-year Party membership badge to Duong Thanh Binh, member of the Standing Board of the NA Party Committee, member of the NA Standing Committee, and Chairman of the NA Committee for Public Aspirations and Supervision. - The 54th session of the National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee is scheduled to take place on February 3 morning, according to the NA Office.
NA Chairman Tran Thanh Man will deliver the opening remarks and, together with the NA Vice Chairpersons, will take turns chairing the session. Read full story
- Vietnam is deeply concerned about a new measure announced by the US to impose additional tariffs on goods from countries supplying oil to Cuba which will have serious impacts on Cuba’s economic and social activities as well as the lives of its people, Spokeswoman of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang said on February 2.
Answering reporters’ question on Vietnam’s response to the US' January 29 announcement of additional tariffs on goods from countries providing oil for Cuba, Hang reaffirmed Vietnam's support for the resolutions adopted by the United Nations General Assembly over many years calling on the US to immediately lift its unilateral blockade and embargo against Cuba and to take steps towards dialogue and improved relations with the country. - Speaker of the Jordanian House of Representatives Mazen Turki El Qadi arrived in Hanoi on February 2 afternoon, beginning an official visit to Vietnam until February 5 at the invitation of National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man.
Welcoming the Jordanian House Speaker and his delegation at Noi Bai International Airport were Don Tuan Phong, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly’s Committee for National Defence, Security and External Relations, along with representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Middle East – Africa Department and the State Protocol Department. - Vietravel Airlines on February 1 launched a direct Ho Chi Minh City–Vinh route to expand its domestic network and enhance connectivity between key economic and tourism hubs.
The new route comes amid rising travel demand, especially during the peak period before and after the Lunar New Year (Tet) festival. As scheduled, Vetravel Airlines plans to operate three daily flights on this route. Read full story
- The Con Dao special zone of Ho Chi Minh City has officially begun operating a smart electricity grid, marking a major step in modernising the island’s energy infrastructure and supporting its socio-economic development, national defence – security, and the quality of life of local residents.
