- State President Luong Cuong hosted an official welcome ceremony in Hanoi on January 29 morning for President of the European Council (EC) António Costa, who is on a two-day official visit to Vietnam.

- Emulation movements must draw the participation of the entire population and ensure that all benefit from their outcomes, helping to improve people’s happiness and well-being, and contributing to the building of a strong, prosperous, humane and peaceful country which firmly advances toward socialism, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said on January 29.
Chairing the 17th meeting of the Central Council for Emulation and Commendation for the 2021–2026 term, PM Chinh, who heads the council, said that its emulation and commendation work reflects the action-oriented spirit of the 14th National Party Congress and the determination to translate the Congress’s Resolution into practice without delay. - At a time when the world is grappling with unprecedented challenges ranging from armed conflicts and geopolitical instability to economic uncertainty and severe climate and environmental pressures, the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) has brought a wave of new vitality to the international community, said Hélène Luc, Honorary Senator and Honorary President of the France–Vietnam Friendship Association, in an interview with the Vietnam News Agency's correspondent in Paris.
According to Luc, the Congress demonstrated that the world can indeed choose a different way of living – one based on peaceful coexistence, the promotion of multilateralism, mutual respect among nations, and the use of science, knowledge and social wealth as foundations to serve humanity and human-centred development. - Advancing diplomacy and international integration is not the task of specialised external-affairs bodies alone nor of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in isolation, but a shared cause of the entire Party, people and armed forces, involving the whole political system, Politburo member and Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung has affirmed.
Granting an interview to the press reviewing Vietnam’s diplomatic work in 2025 and outlining priorities for the time ahead, with particular emphasis on the “mission” assigned to foreign affairs by the 14th National Party Congress and by Politburo Resolution No. 59-NQ/TW on international integration in the new context, the minister noted that for the first time, foreign affairs was explicitly defined as a “critical and regular” field, alongside defence and security. - Russia’s TASS news agency on January 28 published an article by Yuri Denisovich, TASS bureau chief in Vietnam, offering positive assessments of the outcomes of the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) and their significance for bilateral relations.
In his article, the author observed that Vietnam’s development objectives, as set out by the Congress, are not limited to the next five-year period but also outlined long-term orientations for building Vietnamese society through 2045. He noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin sent a congratulatory message and held a phone call to congratulate To Lam on being elected General Secretary of the CPV Central Committee for the 14th term. - The Southeast Asian Fencing Federation has announced that its Senior Championships are scheduled to take place in October 2026 in the northern province of Quang Ninh.
The tournament is regarded as one of the most notable international events for Vietnamese fencers in the year, as it marks Vietnam’s return to hosting an international fencing competition after several years. The last time Vietnamese fencers competed at an international event on home soil was at the 31st SEA Games in Hanoi in 2022./. Read full story
