– During his working visit to the northern border province of Cao Bang on January 28, Party General Secretary To Lam held a working session with the provincial Party Committee, stressing the need for the locality to transform its distinctive advantages into concrete and sustainable drivers of development.
General Secretary Lam underscored Cao Bang’s uniquely important position as a mountainous, border province of strategic significance to national defence, security and foreign affairs, as well as the cradle of the Vietnamese revolution where President Ho Chi Minh first returned to the country to directly lead the revolutionary cause, laying the foundations for decisive turning points in the nation’s history. – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that hosting APEC 2027 is a major honour for Vietnam and the Phu Quoc special zone, underscoring that investment in strategic infrastructure will be critical to the event’s success while also serving as a powerful driver of development nationwide, including in An Giang province and Phu Quoc, and strengthening the country’s capacity, stature and international standing.
The PM made the remarks on January 28 while inspecting key works and projects serving APEC 2027 in the Phu Quoc special zone, southern An Giang province. Read full story
– National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man offered incense in tribute to late Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, former Chairman of the 11th and 12th National Assembly, and late State President Tran Dai Quang, and paid a visit to former NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung on January 28 on the occasion of the 96th founding anniversary of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the upcoming Lunar New Year (Tet).

– Ship 17 of Brigade 171 under Naval Region 2, together with a working delegation of the Vietnam People’s Navy, on January 28 departed from the naval port of Brigade 171 in Rach Dua ward, Ho Chi Minh City, beginning its voyage to participate in activities within the framework of the 2026 multilateral naval exercise (MILAN) in India.

– Vietnam has called on countries that have yet to sign or ratify the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime (Hanoi Convention) to soon complete the necessary procedures so that it can enter into force promptly and deliver practical benefits to the international community in combating cybercrime.
The call was made by Ambassador Vu Le Thai Hoang, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the UN and other international organisations in Vienna, while leading an inter-agency delegation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Public Security to attend the first meeting of the ad hoc committee on the rules of procedure for the implementation of the convention. – The Ministry of National Defence on January 28 released official information regarding a military aircraft incident which occurred in the morning of January 28 in the central province of Dak Lak.
The aircraft crashed into Hon Vinh mountain in Dong Hoa ward. The incident caused no harm to local residents and did not affect residential areas or infrastructure. Read full story
– The Department of Medical Services Administration under the Ministry of Health (MoH) has issued a directive urging hospitals under the ministry, medical units of ministries and sectors, and provincial and municipal health departments to intensify preventive and control measures against Nipah virus disease.
Nipah virus infection is designated a Group A infectious disease, with reported fatality rates of between 40 and 75%. At present, no vaccine or specific antiviral treatment is available. Read full story./.
