Ho Chi Minh City (VNA) – The Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organisations (HUFO) held a ceremony marking the 67th anniversary of the triumph of the Cuban Revolution (January 1, 1959 – 2025), and a solidarity gathering in Ho Chi Minh City on January 29.

Addressing the event, Truong Thi Hien, Chairwoman of the Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam – Cuba Friendship Association, said the Cuban Revolution’s victory 67 years ago ushered in a new era of independence and freedom for the heroic Cuban people. The occasion also carries special significance for the Vietnamese people - loyal friends who have followed Cuba’s revolutionary journey with admiration.

The special, steadfast, and enduring Vietnam – Cuba relationship goes beyond conventional diplomatic ties, embodying comradeship and brotherhood forged through war and hardship. This rare, sincere, and selfless international solidarity has transcended geographical distance and global changes, becoming a priceless spiritual asset of both nations, she noted.

According to Hien, for years, the Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam – Cuba Friendship Association has served as a reliable bridge between the two countries' people, working closely with the Cuban Consulate General in the city to organise a wide range of meaningful activities. Cultural exchanges, traditional education programmes for young people, friendship meetings, exhibitions, seminars, and humanitarian initiatives have helped bring the resilient and compassionate image of Cuba closer to residents in Ho Chi Minh City.

The association pledges to further renew its activities, broaden friendship networks, and engage younger generations to ensure the sustained vitality of Vietnam – Cuba friendship, she said.

Cuban Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City Ariadne Feo Labrada thanked the HUFO for hosting the event, saying that the gathering honoured fundamental human values such as friendship, solidarity and internationalism—values that Cuba and Vietnam have consistently nurtured.

Vietnam and Cuba, she noted, are brotherly nations that have built a special, sincere and mutually supportive relationship, serving as a model in international relations. She added that the spirit of solidarity has been a binding force enabling the two peoples to overcome injustice and safeguard their right to self-determination and national sovereignty.

Labrada thanked the Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam – Cuba Friendship Association and the HUFO for launching the “Sunshine Without Borders” campaign to support the installation of solar power systems in Cuban primary schools. She expressed her belief that the special Cuba–Vietnam solidarity will endure and be carried forward by future generations.

On this occasion, the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO) presented Labrada with the “For peace and friendship among nations” insignia in recognition of her significant efforts and contributions to strengthening the friendship and solidarity between the people of Vietnam and Cuba./.
