Hanoi (VNA) – The following is a brief review of the day’s events as reported by the Vietnam News Agency.

- General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee To Lam and a high ranking Vietnamese delegation will pay a state visit to Laos on February 5, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The visit will be made at the invitation of Thongloun Sisoulith, General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party Central Committee and President of Laos, the statement said. Read full story

- Party General Secretary To Lam, on behalf of the 14th-tenure Politburo, signed Decision No. 05-QDNS/TW on January 30 assigning Politburo members to join the 14th Party Central Committee’s Secretariat.

They include General Secretary Lam, who is also Secretary of the Central Military Commission; Tran Cam Tu, permanent member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat, and Secretary of the Party Committee of Central Party Agencies; Le Minh Hung, Secretary of the 13th Party Central Committee and Chairman of the Party Central Committee's Organisation Commission; Bui Thi Minh Hoai, Secretary of the 13th Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and Central Mass Organisations, and President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee; and Nguyen Trong Nghia, Secretary of the 13th Party Central Committee, member of the Standing Board of the Central Military Commission, and Chairman of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army. Welcoming the special envoy, General Secretary Lam emphasised that the visit carries profound political significance, reflecting the high priority, deep respect, and sincere friendship of the Chinese Party, State, and people towards their Vietnamese counterparts, as well as the long-standing solidarity and close bonds between the two Communist Parties. - Concluding the 23rd meeting of the state steering committee for nationally important and key transport projects, held online with 27 provinces and cities, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh underscored the priority of implementing expressway projects in the Mekong Delta, northern mountainous provinces, the Central Highlands, and routes connecting Vietnam with China, Laos and Cambodia.

PM Chinh, also the head of the committee, directed the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Construction to coordinate in identifying key projects under the medium-term public investment plan, ensuring that by 2030 Vietnam achieves the target of completing at least 5,000 km of roads as set out in the 14th National Party Congress Resolution. - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on January 30 received Hong Tianzhu, Chairman of Texhong Group, calling on the Chinese textile firm to deepen its investment in Vietnam and expand into new sectors, including the organisation of international-standard fashion shows in the country.

Congratulating Texhong on its effective investment performance in Vietnam in recent years, the PM noted that Vietnam–China relations are developing positively, creating favourable conditions for Texhong to expand cooperation and investment in Vietnam. Read full story

- State President Luong Cuong paid pre-Tet visits to the families of late Party and State leaders and offered incense in tribute to former Party General Secretaries Le Kha Phieu and Nguyen Phu Trong, and former State Presidents Tran Duc Luong and Tran Dai Quang on January 30 in Hanoi.

While respectfully offering incense, President Cuong expressed deep gratitude for the great contributions of Le Kha Phieu to the Party, State, Army and people. Throughout his revolutionary career, the late leader excellently fulfilled all responsibilities entrusted by the Party, the State and the people, upholding the steadfast qualities of a communist soldier. - Vietnam and Mozambique have signed a new agreement on higher education cooperation, further strengthening bilateral ties and expanding practical collaboration in education and training.

The agreement was inked on January 29 in Maputo by Vietnamese Ambassador to Mozambique Tran Thi Thu Thin and Mozambican Minister of Education and Culture Samaria Tovela. Read full story

- Hanoi’s agricultural and forestry exports were estimated to exceed 2 billion USD in 2025, maintaining steady growth and reinforcing the capital’s role in the national agricultural supply chain, according to the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Environment.

Of the total, key agricultural and food products accounted for about 1.4 billion USD, representing the largest share of the sector’s export turnover. The result reflects the effectiveness of Hanoi’s efforts to expand overseas markets, improve quality standards, strengthen traceability systems and promote international-standard production models to meet increasingly stringent import requirements.
