Tay Ninh (VNA) - The southern province of Tay Ninh on January 29 hosted the signing ceremony of cooperation agreements for the 2026–2030 period and a New Year friendship gathering with the three neighbouring Cambodian provinces of Tbong Khmum, Svay Rieng and Prey Veng.
The event, held on the occasion of the Lunar New Year (Tet), marked not only a review of past achievements but also a renewed commitment by the leaders of the four provinces to building a peaceful, stable and jointly prosperous border area.
Representatives of the Cambodian provinces highlighted the longstanding friendship with Tay Ninh. Svay Rieng Governor Peng Posa noted that cooperation between the two sides had been maintained through agreements signed in 2013 and 2017, even before the merger of the former Long An and Tay Ninh provinces.
He described the newly signed agreement for 2026–2030 as necessary to meet evolving socio-economic and administrative realities, expressing confidence that it will elevate bilateral cooperation in a practical, effective and sustainable manner, serving the interests of local people and contributing to peace, security and sustainable development along the shared border.
Prey Veng Governor Suon Somalin conveyed appreciation for the warm reception extended by Tay Ninh’s leaders, stressing that such exchanges reflected solidarity and shared values among close neighbours.
He affirmed that the two countries, as friends and brothers, have continued to strengthen and expand relations for tangible benefits to their peoples, while contributing positively to peace, stability and long-term cooperation.
Meanwhile, Tbong Khmum Governor Pen Kosal recalled historical milestones underpinning the friendship, highlighting Vietnam’s support in helping Cambodia overcome the genocidal regime in the late 1970s.
He described this as a historical truth and a solid foundation for current cooperation, noting positive results over the past 12 years in investment, trade, health care, education and border security. He also highlighted effective coordination in combating transnational crime and recent cooperation in searching for the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers.
For his part, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Tay Ninh Le Van Han thanked the delegations from the three Cambodian provinces for attending the Lunar New Year celebrations and reaffirmed Tay Ninh’s consistent policy of valuing and deepening friendly neighbourliness. He noted that following the administrative merger forming the current Tay Ninh province, favourable conditions have continued to be created for trade and goods transportation.
Han outlined four key areas of cooperation for the 2026–2030 period - economy; agriculture, fisheries and environmental protection; culture, society and tourism; and border management, border demarcation, and security and order maintenance.
The Tay Ninh leader stressed that the agreements reflected not only political determination but also a practical commitment to joint development and the building of a peaceful, friendly, stable and sustainably developing border area.
Tay Ninh, he added, will closely coordinate with its Cambodian counterparts to translate the agreementd into concrete action programmes, deepen substantive cooperation and further strengthen political trust and good neighbourliness between the two countries./.
