– PartyGeneral Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong’s speech at the first meeting of thepersonnel sub-committee for the 14th National Party Congress recently has drawngreat attention of officials, Party members and people, who said it showed theresponsibility of the Party leader in building the Party and political systemof integrity and strength.

According to head of the provincial PartyCommittee's Commission for Organisation of Vinh Long province Nguyen HieuNghia, the 14th National Party Congress will be a significant milestone markingthe transition of two generations of officials, from those who were born, grewup during the war and were educated in socialist countries, to those who grewup in peace and received education in different countries with differentpolitical regimes.Read full text

–French historian Alain Ruscio, who has conducted many studies on Indochina andVietnam, has hailed the significance of Dien Bien Phu Victory, saying it had agreat influence on the struggle against colonialism of peoples around theworld, and the historical meaning of the event remains valid today.

In an interview granted to the Vietnam News Agency(VNA) on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the victory, the historiansaid at that time, the Indochina war was followed by people around the world,stressing that it was not merely a war between France and Vietnam but aninternational one.Read full text

–Recovery of the world economy, including many major export markets of Vietnam,is a positive sign for the Southeast Asian nation’s import and exportactivities in the coming time.

Tran Thanh Hai, deputy head of the Ministry ofIndustry and Trade (MoIT)’s Foreign Trade Agency, said that total export-importturnover hit 178.04 billion USD in the first quarter of this year, up 15.5%year-on-year, resulting in a trade surplus of 8.08 billion USD.Read full text

– Hanoiwas the most expensive place to live in Vietnam for the third consecutive yearsin 2023, according to the 2023 Spatial Cost of Living Index (SCOLI) reportreleased by the General Statistics Office (GSO) on March 29.

Hanoi was followed by Ho Chi Minh City, QuangNinh, Hai Phong and Binh Duong, while top five localities with the lowest costof living were Ben Tre, Nam Dinh, Quang Tri, Soc Trang and Gia Lai.Read full text

Vietnam, Belgium boost parliamentary cooperation, deepen bilateral relations

Senior military officer inspects martyrs’ remains search at Le Thị Rieng Park

Nghia described the ongoing 500-day campaign as a sacred mission that embodies the Vietnamese tradition of remembering those who served and sacrificed for the nation. The current generation, he said, must spare no effort in carrying out the Party’s policy and fulfilling the aspirations of the people, particularly the families of the fallen.

PM calls for building elite, professional international search and rescue force

During its mission from June 29 to July 7, the team worked around the clock under extremely hazardous conditions amid heavily damaged and contaminated disaster zones. Despite the challenges, rescue personnel recovered 57 victims' bodies and handed them over to local authorities and families. They also identified and reported several suspected locations where additional victims might be trapped.

📝 OP-ED: Respect for history, gratitude a lasting cultural value of Vietnamese people

In Vietnamese cultural life, gratitude toward preceding generations has long been preserved as an integral part of the nation's identity. This tradition is reflected in ancestor worship practiced in families, the Worship of the Hung Kings, village deities, national heroes and eminent cultural figures, as well as tributes to generations who sacrificed their lives for the nation's independence and freedom.

Border community twinning strengthens Vietnam–Laos friendship

Over the past decade, the twinning relationship between Thuy Phong village in Nghe An’s Kim Bang commune, and Xop Tuong village in Nam On commune, Xaychamphone district, Bolikhamxay province of Laos, has become a model for fostering a shared border of peace, friendship and cooperation.
