- President Vo Van Thuong and a high-ranking delegation of Vietnam arrived in Vientiane on April 10 morning, beginning an official visit to Laos at the invitation of General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith.
The Vietnamese leader and his delegation were welcomed by Chairwoman of the Lao Presidential Office Khemani Pholsena, Mayor of Vientiane Atsaphangthong Siphandone, Deputy Foreign Minister Thongphane Savanphet, Lao Ambassador to Vietnam Sengphet Houngboungnuang, representatives of the Lao Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos Nguyen Ba Hung. - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on April 10 asked relevant agencies to take in the most of people’s opinions to ensure the draft revised Land Law matches the reality, with interests of the State, people, and businesses harmonised.
He made the request while addressing the Government’s law-building session which looked into the collection of the public feedback on the draft revised Land Law and the NA Standing Committee’s opinions about the draft revised Law on Housing. Read full story
- The 15th National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee convened its 22nd session in Hanoi on April 10 under the chair of NA Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue.
In his opening speech, NA Chairman Hue said during the two-day session, the Committee will discuss the proposed law building programme for 2024, adjustments to the law and ordinance building programme in 2023, and a report of the NA supervision delegation on the mobilisation and use of resources for COVID-19 prevention and control, and the implementation of implementation of policies and laws on grassroots health and preventive medicine. - Vietnam and the Netherlands boast a good, open and candid relationship, which is seen as a model of relations between Vietnam and a European nation, a diplomat has said.
In an interview granted to the Vietnam News Agency (VNA) on the occasion of the 50th founding anniversary of the bilateral diplomatic ties (April 9, 2023), Vietnamese Ambassador to the Netherlands Pham Viet Anh recalled the Netherlands’ support to Vietnam in various spheres when the Southeast Asian nation was facing a host of war-induced challenges. - Ships 8004 and 8003 of the Vietnam Coast Guard left Dinh Vu port in Hai Phong city on April 9 afternoon for a joint patrol with the China Coast Guard in the waters adjacent to the Gulf of Tonkin demarcation line.
This is the first such activity in 2023 and the sixth between the two sides in this area. It will take place from April 11-13, with a distance of 255.5 nautical miles. Read full story
- Major newspapers of Laos on April 10 ran articles highlighting the upcoming official visit by President Vo Van Thuong to Laos, affirming that it will contribute to deepening the Laos – Vietnam special relations.
In its article, Pasaxon - the official newspaper of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party (LPRP) - said the Vietnamese President’s official visit to Laos from April 10 – 11 at the invitation of Lao Party General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith will help strengthen the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two nations, and affirm that Vietnam always attaches importance to developing the relations with Laos. - Vietnam’s banking system is showing signs of returning to a period of money surplus as no bank needs the State Bank of Vietnam's (SBV) capital in the open market operation (OMO) channel and overnight interbank interest rates have dropped sharply.
Though the SBV has offered cheaper interest rates with longer-term loans in the OMO channel, no banks have taken part in the SBV’s offers. April 3 marked the 10th consecutive session that the SBV failed to lend capital on the OMO channel. Read full story
- The value of textile and garment exports in the first quarter of 2023 reached 7.1 billion USD, down 17% compared to the same period in 2022, due to the impact of global inflation, according to the General Statistics Office (GSO).
This was the deepest decline in the first quarter since 2009, the GSO said. Read full story
- The northern province of Bac Ninh attracted more than 565 million in foreign investment in the first quarter of 2023, ranking third among localities nationwide, according to the provincial People's Committee.
In the reviewed period, the province granted licences to 55 new projects, worth 481 million USD, which doubled the number of projects seen in the same period last year and marked a year-on-year increase of 8.5 times in terms of capital. Read full story
