- The 10th session of the StandingCommittee of the 15th National Assembly (NA) opened in Hanoi on April 14.

In his opening remarks, NA ChairmanVuong Dinh Hue said the session, scheduled to last until April 26, will focuson discussing preparations for the third meeting of the legislature slated forMay 23. Read full story

- Vietnam has the opportunity todevelop a pathway for inclusive, green growth that others can learn from,United Nations Development Programme Resident Representative Caitlin Wiesen hassaid.

Wiesen told the press on the sidelinesof the launch of the Stockholm 50 National Consultations in Vietnam in Hanoi onApril 13 that Vietnam has recorded improvements on a number of the sustainabledevelopment goals (SDGs) related to the environment such as clean water andsanitation. Read full story

- The Ministry of Health (MoH) hasissued two scenarios for the COVID-19 pandemic based on the World HealthOrganisation (WHO)’s studies and scientific grounds.

The first scenario is that the virulence of the Omicron variant will graduallyease while the immunity obtained thanks to COVID-19 vaccination and infectionswill help bring down the numbers of new and severe cases, as well asfatalities. Meanwhile, in the second scenario, new variants of the coronavirusSARS-CoV-2 will continually appear and many reduce the effectiveness ofvaccines, spread more quickly, and raise the risk of severity. Read full story

- The COVID-19 vaccination campaign forchildren aged 5 to below 12 began on April 14, with the launching ceremony heldby the Ministry of Health in the northern province of Quang Ninh.

The first batch of vaccine administeredto children in this age group is Moderna, sponsored by the AustralianGovernment. The shipment arrived in Vietnam on April 8. Read full story

- Foreign investment poured into realestate hit almost 2.7 billion USD in the first quarter of this year, outpacingthe figure of the entire 2021, according to the Ministry of Planning andInvestment.

Statistics show that foreign investmentinto real estate reached 2.69 billion USD in Q1 alone, higher than the 2.63billion USD last year. It included 1.1 billion USD channeled into existingprojects and 992 million USD spent on contributing capital to or buying sharesfrom domestic firms. Read full story

- The Vietnam Motor Show (VMS), thelargest of its kind in Vietnam, will return this October following two years ofpostponement due to the COVID-19 impact.

Vietnam, Cambodia step up defence cooperation

Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet said his country values defence cooperation with Vietnam, pledging to support and facilitate Vietnam’s efforts to locate and repatriate the remains of the volunteer soldiers. He also expressed his support for Vietnamese defence enterprises effectively operating in Cambodia.

Brazilian President begins state visit to Vietnam

President Lula da Silva is the first foreign head of state to pay a state visit to Vietnam in 2025. This is also the second time he has visited Vietnam as the head of state, after the first time in 2008.
