- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on April 21 morninghosted an official welcome ceremony for his Czech counterpart Petr Fiala who ison an official visit to Vietnam from April 20-22.

After the welcome ceremony, the two PMs held talks.As scheduled, the Czech government leader will also witness the signing ofbilateral cooperation pacts, pay a courtesy call to President Vo Van Thuong,and attend a Vietnam-Czech Republic business forum. Read full story

- National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue and President ofthe National Assembly of People's Power of Cuba Esteban Lazo Hernández comparednotes on orientations and measures to further strengthen the fraternalsolidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties, States,legislatures and peoples during their talks in Havana on April 20 (local time).

The two hosts welcomed the first official visit toCuba by Chairman Hue, who is also the first foreign leader to have visitedtheir country after it successfully held the elections of deputies to theNational Assembly of People’s Power for the 2023 - 2028 tenure and electedthe new State and Government leadership. Read full story

Chairman Hue, who is paying an official visit tothe Latin American nation, affirmed that the Party, State, Government, NationalAssembly, and people of Vietnam always support the just revolutionary cause ofthe fraternal Cuban people. - Promoting the role of multilateralism is of greatimportance in tackling the current global multidimensional crisis, helpingsecure financial resources for the implementation of the sustainabledevelopment goals (SDGs), recommended Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, Vietnam’sPermanent Representative to the United Nations (UN).

In his speech at the 2023 UN Economic and SocialCouncil (ECOSOC) Forum on Financing for Development, held from April 17-20, thediplomat called on the international community to make more efforts to narrowthe financial gap between countries and suggested that the G7 and G20 nationsaccelerate the implementation of their commitments to support developingcountries in accessing preferential financial resources for SDGs and climatechange response. Read full story

- General Director of Vietnam News Agency Vu VietTrang visited the headquarters of Cuban News Agency (ACN) and held talks withACN Director General Edda Diz Garcés on April 20 (Cuba times).

During the talks, two sides reviewed theirbilateral cooperation and highlighted the importance of reliable informationsources in the context of rampant fake news. Read full story   

- Australian Minister for Trade and Tourism Don Farrellexpressed his deep impression on Vietnam’s economic growth as well as the waythe country has improved living standards of people, during his visit to theSoutheast Asian nation from April 16-20.

In an interview granted to the press, the ministernoted that there's been "a wonderful relationship between Australia andVietnam over the last 50 years” and Australia wants to work with Vietnam tocontinue the improvement in living standards so that Vietnam can beat the goalof being a fully developed country by 2045. Read full story

- Export of pepper beans and spices would earn Vietnam 2billion USD in 2025, according to President of the Vietnam Pepper Association(VPA) Hoang Thi Lien.

At a conference on pepper and spice export onApril 21, Lien said the forecast is based on expectations that pepper priceswill rise as demand recovers after COVID-19 while supply remains scarce. Read full story     

- Natural disasters caused economic loss worth nearly19.5 trillion VND (approximately 830 million USD) in 2022, up 3.4 times fromthe loss recorded in 2021, a conference of the national steering committee fornatural disaster prevention and control heard on April 20.

Also, 175 persons were killed or went missingduring natural disasters last year, it was reported at the conference, held ina hybrid format with the participation of all 63 provinces and centrally-runcities./.Read full story

Politburo, Secretariat’s conclusion on tasks for political system streamlining in 2025

The Politburo directed the Party Central Committee’s Organisation Commission to continue working closely with Party committees and affiliated Party bodies to tackle obstacles arising during the implementation phase, ensuring strict adherence to the 13th-term Politburo’s Directive on the organisation of Party congresses at all levels in the lead-up to the 14th National Party Congress and the Politburo’s conclusion on adjustments to the Directive.

Vietnam, Sweden step up cooperation in policy research, public administration

Thang noted that as Vietnam is streamlining its political system, the Party and Government are keen on studying international models of public administration, including Sweden’s. Thus, the HCMA wants to boost collaboration with the Swedish side on administrative reform and public governance against the backdrop of digital transformation.

Vietnam, Cambodia seek to boost friendship, all-around cooperation

In a meeting with Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet on February 19 afternoon, Vietnamese Ambassador Nguyen Minh Vu suggested directions to further strengthen the friendship and multifaceted cooperation between the two countries; enhance political trust; expand investment, trade, and tourism activities; and strengthen economic connectivity towards raising bilateral trade turnover to 20 billion USD.

Vietnam, Cuba discuss measures to further beef up bilateral cooperation

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son expressed his delight at the fruitful development of the Vietnam – Cuba relations in all Party, State, and people-to-people diplomacy channels, reaffirming that the Party and State of Vietnam attach importance to the special relationship with Cuba, the first country in the Western Hemisphere to establish diplomatic ties with Vietnam.

Prime Minister proposes stronger cooperation with Cambodia in various fields

Expressing his pleasure at the growth of Vietnam-Cambodia relations, PM Chinh affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to and prioritises the development of relations with Cambodia, supporting the neighbouring country’s peace, stability, and prosperity as well as Cambodia’s growing role and position both regionally and globally.

NA’s 9th extraordinary session wraps up

Speaking at the closing ceremony, NA Chairman Man stated that the session, which lasted six and a half days, adopted multiple laws and resolutions aimed at reorganising the state apparatus and accelerating socio-economic development.

Resolution adjusting 2025 socio-economic development plan adopted

Under the resolution, the legislative body decided to adjust some key targets. Accordingly, the gross domestic product (GDP) growth rate is set to reach 8% or higher, with the GDP scale this year expected to exceed 500 billion USD. The GDP per capita is projected to surpass 5,000 USD, and the average consumer price index (CPI) growth rate is targeted to be around 4.5 - 5%.

National Assembly adopts two revised laws

On February 19, the 15th National Assembly adopted the Law on Organisation of Local Governments (revised) and the Law on Promulgation of Legal Documents (revised).

NA greenlights investment policy of Lao Cai – Hanoi – Hai Phong rail project

According to the resolution, the construction of a modern and harmonious railway aims to meet the transport demand between Vietnam and China. The initiative is expected to serve as a catalyst for rapid and sustainable economic development along the Lao Cai-Hanoi-Hai Phong economic corridor while strengthening national defence and security and promoting the industrialisation and modernisation, contributing to delivering on the targets and missions set at the documents of the 13th National Party Congress and the Party’s resolutions.
