- General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee and State President To Lam and his spouse will pay a state visit to China from August 18 – 20, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced. Read full story

- The Politburo held a gathering with former leaders of the Party, State and Vietnam Fatherland Front in Hanoi on August 15 on the occasion of the 79th anniversary of the August Revolution and the National Day (September 2).

The event saw the presence of Party General Secretary and State President To Lam, former Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh, former State President Nguyen Minh Triet, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, former PM Nguyen Tan Dung, National Assembly (NA) Chairman Tran Thanh Man, and former Chairpersons of the NA Nguyen Van An, Nguyen Sinh Hung and Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan. - General Phan Van Giang, Politburo member, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission and Minister of National Defence, hosted a reception for General Tan Sri Datuk Seri Mohammad bin Ab Rahman, Chief of Defence Forces of Malaysia, in Hanoi on August 15.

Giang underlined that Vietnam and Malaysia are neighbours linked by the sea and active and responsible members of ASEAN, adding Vietnam attaches great importance to promoting the strategic partnership with Malaysia and supports Malaysia as the ASEAN Chair in 2025. Read full story

- After a booming period, foreign investment flows into Vietnam via mergers and acquisitions (M&A) have slowed down over the past few years, and the market is still waiting for big deals.

In the first seven months of 2024, foreign investment channeled into new and existing projects increased sharply compared to the same period last year, by 35.6% to 10.8 billion USD and 19.4% to nearly 5 billion USD, respectively. Read full story

- Vietnam’s rice industry is experiencing a golden period, with exports projected to surpass 5 billion USD this year, fueled by robust global demand and stable prices, according to experts.

Between January and July, Vietnam shipped over 5.1 million tonnes of rice worth 3.2 billion USD aboard, up 25% in volume and 5.8% in value annually, reported the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. Read full story

- President of the Argentine Chamber of Commerce for Asia and the Pacific (ACCAP) Rallys Pliauzer has highlighted the continuous development of relations between Argentina and Vietnam in all areas, particularly in trade, affirming that the potential for cooperation between the two countries still remains great.

Pliauzer made the affirmation at a seminar on the potential for developing investment and trade markets in Vietnam, which was hosted by his agency on August 14. Read full story

- The Commission for Management of State Capital at Enterprises (CMSC), in collaboration with the Vietnam Trade Office in Canada and the Export Development Canada (EDC), organised a seminar in Toronto on August 14 to connect the two countries’ businesses and seek cooperation opportunities in energy, production, and finance.

The event, held within the framework of a CMSC delegation’s working visit to the North American region, attracted the interest of many organisations and enterprises from both countries, including the Canada-ASEAN Business Council (CABC) which represents over 80 leading Canadian companies operating in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). - Vietnamese students brought home one silver medal and one bronze at the first International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence (IOAI) 2024 in Burgas, Bulgaria.

Accordingly, in the science category, the Vietnam 2 team from the High School for the Gifted of Vietnam National University - Ho Chi Minh City secured the silver medal, while the Vietnam 1 team from Hanoi-Amsterdam High School for the Gifted bagged the bronze one. Read full story

- The first regional thoracic surgery centre will be established in Vietnam under a partnership between FV Hospital, a member of the Thomson Medical Group, and O2 Healthcare Group, a specialised lung centre in Singapore.

The two sides inked a cooperation deal in Ho Chi Minh City on August 15, under which Dr. Su Jang Wen, a leading cardiothoracic surgeon and lung cancer specialist, will be in charge of the centre, which is developed at FV hospital./. Read full story

Vietnam-India relations enter new phase of development: Indian expert

The elevation of bilateral ties to an Enhanced Comprehensive Strategic Partnership reflects the increasingly deep convergence of geopolitical, economic, maritime and civilisational interests between the two countries, former Indian Deputy National Security Adviser S.D. Top leader’s visits opening new phase of deeper, more effective ties with India, Sri Lanka: FM

Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung described the visits as particularly important and historic, taking place at a meaningful moment as Vietnam and India mark the 10th anniversary of their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and just one month after the top leader of Vietnam assumed his new position. For Sri Lanka, this was the highest-level visit by a Vietnamese leader since the two countries established diplomatic relations.
