Hanoi (VNA) - The following is a brief review of the day’s events as reported by the Vietnam News Agency.
- The Ambassador of the Republic of Korea (RoK) to Vietnam, Oh Young Ju, has said the upcoming Vietnam visit by the RoK’s President Yoon Suk Yeol from June 22-24 holds significance as it is the first year the two countries have deployed their Comprehensive strategic partnership.
It will be the first State visit to Vietnam by the RoK President, and Vietnam is the first Southeast Asian country that the leader will visit since he took office in May 2022. Read full story
- The Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force's largest destroyer, Izumo, and accompanying destroyer JS Samidare docked at Cam Ranh International Port in the south central province of Khanh Hoa on June 20, starting their visit to Vietnam from June 20-23.
Colonel Nguyen Thai Hoc, Deputy Chief of Staff of Naval Region 4 High Command presided over a welcome ceremony for the Japanese destroyers. On board of the destroyers is a delegation of 559 officers and sailors, led by Rear Admiral Nishiyama Takahiro, commander of the Izumo's flotilla. Read full story
- The application of global minimum corporate tax from the beginning of 2024 is expected to be an effective tool to prevent transfer pricing and tax evasion, thus helping to increase State revenue through additional tax collection.
Vu Chi Hung, Deputy General Director of the Ministry of Finance’s General Department of Taxation, affirmed that the ministry and taxation sector have always paid attention to fighting transfer pricing to prevent tax losses. Read full story
- Vietnam has continued to be excluded from the US Department of the Treasury’s monitoring list of currency manipulators in its latest report on macro-economic and foreign exchange policies of major trading partners of the US.
The State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) said that the report, released on June 17, continued to base on three criteria to make assessments, namely trade surplus with the US, current account surplus, and persistent and one-sided intervention in the foreign currency market. Read full story
- Credit growth since the start of 2023 remains low, Deputy Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) Dao Minh Tu said, blaming that fact on both subjective and objective causes.
The SBV set this year’s credit growth target for banks at 11%, but total outstanding loans in the economy had reached some 12.32 quadrillion VND (over 523.9 billion USD) as of June 15, increasing 3.36% from the end of 2022 – a relatively slow pace compared to previous years, Tu told a press briefing on June 21.Read full story
- Former Secretary of the Party Central Committee and former Deputy Prime Minister Vu Khoan passed away after a period of illness at 7:05 am on June 21 at the 108 Military Central Hospital in Hanoi, according to the Central Committee on Health Care for Senior Governmental Officials.
