Hanoi (VNA) – The following is a brief review of the day’s events as reported by the Vietnam News Agency.

- The mergence of the three south-central and Central Highlands provinces of Lam Dong, Binh Thuan and Dak Nong creates a unique opportunity to comprehensively restructure the regional development model and redistribute population, infrastructure, and investment in line with a forward-looking strategy for rapid and sustainable growth in the new era, Party General Secretary To Lam has stressed.

At a working session with the Standing Board of the Lam Dong provincial Party Committee and permanent members of the Party Committees of Binh Thuan and Dak Nong provinces on June 9, the Party chief affirmed the strategic significance of merging the three provinces to form a new, larger Lam Dong province. The move is aimed at enhancing governance efficiency, restructuring the development space for greater cohesion and sustainability, and optimising resources, he said. Read full story

- Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on June 8 met with Jordanian King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein on the sidelines of the 3rd United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC 3) in Nice, France.

PM Chinh affirmed that Vietnam attaches importance to multifaceted cooperation with Jordan. He recalled his meeting with the Crown Prince of Jordan on the occasion of attending the 8th Future Investment Initiative Conference in October 2024, in which the two sides discussed many measures to promote bilateral relations. - Vietnam highly evaluates its friendship and multifaceted cooperation with Costa Rica - one of the country’s key partners in Central America and the Caribbean, stated Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh at a meeting with President Rodrigo Chaves of Costa Rica, the co-host of the 3rd United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC 3), on the sidelines of the conference in Nice, France, on June 8 (local time).

PM Chinh proposed that the two countries continue to strengthen political trust through the regular exchange of delegations at all levels, especially high-level visits, as well as political consultations. He called for expanded economic collaboration, increased bilateral trade, enhanced cultural exchanges, and deeper people-to-people connections. Read full story

- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh called upon UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay to continue supporting Vietnam's heritage applications in their meeting on the sidelines of the 3rd United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC 3) in Nice, France, on June 9.

The Vietnamese leader reaffirmed the Southeast Asian country's unwavering commitment to UNESCO's mission of maintaining global peace, security, and sustainable development through enhanced multilateral cooperation in education, culture, science, information, and communications. Read full story

- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressed his hope that Vietnam and Tuvalu will soon officially establish diplomatic relations, while meeting with Prime Minister of Tuvalu Feleti Penitala Teo on the sidelines of the 3rd United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC 3) in Nice, France, on June 9.

PM Chinh showed his pleasure at meeting his Tuvaluan counterpart for the first time and affirmed that Vietnam values strengthening its friendship and cooperation with Tuvalu. Read full story

- The Vietnamese biotechnology firm, AVAC Vietnam JSC, on June 9 exported its first batch of AVAC ASF LIVE vaccine to Indonesia, marking a significant milestone in the country’s efforts to bring its domestically developed African swine fever (ASF) vaccine to the international market.

The shipment comprises 120,000 doses. The vaccine received official approval for use from Indonesia’s Ministry of Agriculture on April 23, following nearly three years of assessment. Indonesian company PT Biotis Prima Agrisindo, based in West Java, will act as the importer and distributor. Read full story

- Venezuela fully supports and stands ready to accompany Vietnamese enterprises to invest in the country’s agricultural sector, Venezuela’s Vice President and Chairman of the Venezuela–Vietnam Intergovernmental Committee Jorge Marquez said while receiving a delegation from the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment who are in Venezuela for a working visit and attendance at the first AgroAlba 2025 Expo.

The Vice President said Venezuela has prepared 100,000 ha of agricultural land for Vietnamese investors, and emphasised that as Chairman of the Venezuela-Vietnam Intergovernmental Committee, he will directly monitor and support the implementation of cooperation initiatives./. Read full story
