Hanoi (VNA) – The following is a brief review of the day’s events as reported by the Vietnam News Agency.

- The improvement of laws and institutions must pave the way for development and encourage all people and businesses to take part in the socio-economic and national development process, said Party General Secretary To Lam, head of the central steering committee for perfecting institutions and laws, while chairing the first meeting of the committee in Hanoi on June 5.

Participants focused on reviewing and providing guidance on several key documents and issues. These included the draft working regulations of the committee, the assignment of responsibilities to its members, the 2025 work programme, the collection of public feedback on proposed amendments to the 2013 Constitution, a report on legal reforms related to decentralisation, and a draft plan to review and settle legal bottlenecks. - State President Luong Cuong had a working session with the Quang Ninh provincial Party Committee on June 5 to review of the implementation of the Resolution of the 13th Party Central Committee's 11th meeting and the ongoing preparations in terms of documents and personnel arrangements for the upcoming provincial Party Congress.

In his remarks, the State President acknowledged Quang Ninh’s strong performance in socio-economic development, Party building and rectification, and in maintaining national defence, security, and public order. - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, his spouse Le Thi Bich Tran and a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation arrived at Lennart Meri Tallinn airport in the capital of Tallinn on June 5 morning (local time), starting their three-day official visit to Estonia at the invitation of Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal.

Welcoming PM Chinh, his spouse and the Vietnamese delegation at the airport were Estonian Ambassador to China and Vietnam Hannes Hanso; Deputy Director of the Estonian State Protocol Department Sven Tolp; and Vietnamese Ambassador to Finland and Estonia Pham Thi Thanh Binh. Read full story

- General Nguyen Tan Cuong, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA) and Deputy Minister of National Defence, is leading a high-ranking military delegation on an official visit to Cambodia from June 3–6, aiming to further strengthen bilateral defence cooperation.

On June 4, Cuong paid a courtesy call on Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) and President of the Cambodian Senate. He highlighted the growing political and diplomatic trust between the two countries and underscored the importance of maintaining high-level exchanges between the Communist Party of Vietnam and the CPP to guide future cooperation. - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has just issued another official dispatch requesting continued efforts to intensify the peak crackdown campaign to combat and repel smuggling, trade fraud, counterfeit goods, and infringements on intellectual property rights.

The document states that, in recent times, ministries, sectors, localities, and relevant forces have made significant efforts in implementing Directive No. 13/CT-TTg dated May 17, 2025, Official Dispatches No. 65/CD-TTg dated May 15, 2025, and No. 72/CD-TTg dated May 24, 2025, issued by the Prime Minister, on stepping up the peak campaign to fight these acts. - Within the framework of negotiations on a reciprocal trade agreement between Vietnam and the US, Vietnamese Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien, head of the Vietnamese Government’s negotiation team, and US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, head of the US Government's negotiation team, held a ministerial-level meeting on June 4 in Paris, France.

The two sides reviewed progress since the second technical round of talks, assessed the implementation of previously agreed tasks, and outlined oritentations for the upcoming round./.Read full story

Security forces stage rehearsal for 14th National Party Congress

Deputy Minister of Public Security congratulates Lao officials following succesful 12th National Party Congress

Deputy Minister of Public Security Senior Lieutenant General Le Quoc Hungconveyed the warmest congratulations of the Central Public Security Party Committee, the Ministry of Public Security leadership, and the Vietnamese People’s Public Security Forces to Lakhamfong and other Lao public security leaders on the congress’s success and their election to key leadership positions for the new term.

NA Standing Committee's key work agenda for 2026 approved

A major focus will be preparations for the election of deputies to the 16th NA and to People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026–2031 term. The NASC will coordinate with the National Election Council, the Government, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee, and relevant agencies and organisations to continue implementing the election plan, organise oversight of the electoral process, and carry out its duties and powers as prescribed.

Party leader receives outgoing US Ambassador
