Hanoi (VNA) – The following is a brief review of the day’s events as reported by the Vietnam News Agency.

– Party General Secretary To Lam has underscored that merging the provinces of An Giang and Kien Giang will enhance intrinsic strength and competitiveness in the Southwestern region.

At a working session on June 4 with the Standing Board of the Kien Giang provincial Party Committee and permanent members of the An Giang provincial Party Committee, the Party leader envisaged the mergence as the foundation for a dynamic “mountain – plain – border – sea” development corridor that combines border and maritime economies. – General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee To Lam and State President Luong Cuong on June 4 sent messages of congratulations to Lee Jae-myung on his election as the 21st President of the Republic of Korea (RoK).

In their messages, Party General Secretary Lam and President Cuong expressed their firm belief that with the prestige, mettle, and strategic vision of President Lee, the RoK will continue to develop strongly, achieve greater accomplishments, and affirm its international role and standing in the coming time. – Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s upcoming official visit to Estonia marks a milestone in bilateral relationship, paving the way for its new phase of development via both government and business channels, particularly key areas of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, a diplomat has said.

Speaking to the Vietnam News Agency (VNA)’s correspondents in Europe ahead of the trip, Vietnamese Ambassador to Finland and Estonia Pham Thi Thanh Binh noted that this is the first visit by a Vietnamese Government leader to the Baltic nation since the two countries established diplomatic ties in 1992. – Iran is seeking to bolster cooperation with Vietnam across a broad range of fields, including politics, defence and security, economy, culture, and people-to-people exchanges, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has said.

During a meeting with Vietnamese Ambassador Nguyen Luong Ngoc in Tehran on June 3 after receiving his credentials, President Pezeshkian expressed his belief that the new ambassador would make significant contributions to boosting the friendship and cooperation between the two nations, serving the needs and interests of both peoples. – Vietnam’s National Action Centre for Toxic Chemicals and Environmental Treatment (NACCET) and the US Defence Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA)’s On-Site Inspection and Building Capacity Directorate signed an administrative agreement in Hanoi on June 3 to bolster Vietnam’s capacity to respond to chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) incidents.

The signing marked a stride in the Vietnam – US comprehensive strategic partnership as they celebrate the 30th anniversary of diplomatic ties, aiming to strengthen Vietnam’s preparedness for non-traditional security threats, mitigate damage, and build resilience against potential disasters. – Tax revenues from organisations and individuals engaged in e-commerce and other digital economic activities reached 74.4 trillion VND (approximately 2.85 billion USD) in the first five months of 2025, representing a 55% increase compared to the same period in 2024, according to the Ministry of Finance.

A total of 158 foreign service providers have registered, declared, and paid taxes through the Department of Taxation’s electronic portal, contributing 5.7 trillion VND, up 41% year-on-year. Read full story

– Starting June 1, 2025, the use of electronic invoices (e-invoices) generated by cash registers has officially become mandatory for business households with annual revenue exceeding 1 billion VND (approximately 38,361 USD).
