Hanoi (VNA) – The following is a brief review of the day’s events as reported by the Vietnam News Agency.

– The Office of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee and the Office of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party (LPRP) Central Committee will strengthen cooperation, contributing to lifting collaboration and relations between the two Parties and countries to a new height, as agreed by their heads during talks in Hanoi on May 29.

Secretary of the CPV Central Committee and chief of its office Le Hoai Trung and his Lao counterpart Thongsalith Mangnomek informed each other about the situation of each Party and country. – Concluding after 22 days of deliberations, the first phase of the 15th National Assembly (NA)’s ninth session has achieved notable milestones, delivering outcomes of historic importance.

During this phase, the NA voted to adopt eight resolutions, paving the way for amendments to several articles of the 2013 Constitution, preparing for the election of deputies to the 16th NA and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026–2031 term, and making decisions on other urgent matters in line with the Politburo’s resolutions. – The Dominican Republic treasures its relations with Vietnam, a nation with growing important role in the Asia - Pacific region, President Luis Rodolfo Abinader Corona told Vietnamese Ambassador Le Quang Long, who the diplomat came to present his credentials on May 29 in Santo Domingo.

President Abinader proposed enhancing bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest, particularly telecommunications, agriculture and high technology. Read full story

– Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan Anh, Vice President of the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam, has been officially nominated by Vietnam as a candidate for judge at the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) for the 2026–2035 term.

This marks Vietnam’s first-ever candidacy for a seat on ITLOS, a move that reflects the country’s consistent stance in supporting international law, multilateralism, and active contributions to global governance. The nomination also affirms Vietnam’s commitment to promoting gender equality and the role of women in international institutions. Read full story

– Minister of Finance Nguyen Van Thang hosted a reception in Hanoi on May 29 for with a high-level delegation from the Oman Investment Authority (OIA), led by Nasser Sulaiman Hamed Al Harthy, Vice Chairman of the OIA and Chairman of the Board at the Vietnam–Oman Investment JS Company (VOI).

Both sides praised the growing financial and investment partnership between the two countries, particularly through VOI, a strategic joint venture between the OIA and the State Capital Investment Corporation (SCIC) of Vietnam, established in 2008. – Binh Duong, Ba Ria–Vung Tau and Ho Chi Minh City are racing ahead with the implementation of a major plan to merge them into a single, expanded Ho Chi Minh City, which is designed to capitalise on their geographical proximity, natural advantages, transport infrastructure, and economic strengths to create a unified urban powerhouse.

Beyond the reorganisation of administrative units, it marks a strategic, multi-modal integration of road, rail, air, and sea transport – effectively opening up a new era of development for HCM City and for Vietnam as a whole. Read full story

– In response to shifting global trade dynamics and tariff challenges, Vietnam’s textile and footwear sectors are actively diversifying their export markets, with a strong focus on destinations that have signed free trade agreements (FTAs) with the country.

Truong Van Cam, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (VITAS), said many companies are currently prioritising the fulfilment of export orders. However, the industry is also in urgent need of detailed market information to accelerate exports to promising destinations such as Russia, Brazil, Chile, and the Middle East. Read full story./.

Vietnamese naval ship completes mission at Kakadu Exercise 2026

Ship 016–Quang Trung of Brigade 162 under Naval Region 4 departed Sydney Harbour on the morning of March 25 for home after successfully completing activities within the framework of the Exercise Kakadu Fleet Review 2026 marking the 125th anniversary of the Royal Australian Navy and the multilateral naval exercise Kakadu 2026.
