Hanoi (VNA) - The following is a brief review of the day’s events as reported by the Vietnam News Agency.

- Party General Secretary and State President To Lam and the high-ranking delegation of Vietnam arrived at Noi Bai Internationbal Airport in Hanoi on October 8, wrapping up the state visits to Mongolia and Ireland, the participation in the 19th Francophonie Summit, and the official visit to France from September 30 to October 7.

With a hectic schedule in Mongolia, Ireland, France, and the Francophonie Summit, the Vietnamese delegation engaged in nearly 80 bilateral and multilateral activities. Read full story

- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh had a working breakfast with his Lao and Cambodian counterparts, Sonexay Siphandone and Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, respectively, in Vientiane on October 9 to review, evaluate, and promote cooperation among the three countries.

At the event, held while they were there to attend the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits, the three PMs highlighted the tradition of solidarity, close bonds, and mutual support among the countries, describing it as a valuable asset, a foundation for development of their cooperative relations and mutual trust, and a key factor in promoting solidarity and ties among them. - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh called on ASEAN member nations to foster unity and take resilience as the foundation to enter a new phase of development with new thinking and momentum, and refreshed outlook, in his keynote speech at the plenary session of the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits which opened in Vientiane on October 9.

The Vietnamese government leader expressed his gratitude for the support and solidarity shown by ASEAN countries in addressing the aftermath of Typhoon Yagi which affected several nations, including Vietnam. He emphasised that the spirit of unity and mutual assistance, embodied in the principle of "one for all, all for one", remains the core value and source of strength for ASEAN. Read full story

- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on October 8 signed an official dispatch, urging relevant authorities to accelerate the disbursement of public investment in the remaining months of this year.

The Government leader ordered ministries, sectors, and localities to fully grasp the significance of public investment to socio-economic development and see it a top political mission, contributing to bolstering economic growth, creating new development space, reducing logistics costs, and generating jobs. - Replacing temporary and dilapidated houses with safe and sturdy ones is a meaningful and practical policy to help poor people enjoy better living conditions, showing the efforts by the whole political system in ensuring social welfare and leaving no one behind.

“Settling down and making a living” has been a dream of many people, especially poor and near-poor families as well as those in natural disaster-prone, far-flung and mountainous areas. However, it remains a distant dream for most of them. Read full story

- Green, clean development and semiconductor chip production are among the sectors in Vietnam that foreign investors are interested in, according to VinaCapital CEO and Founding Partner Don Lam.

At the group’s Investor Conference for 2024 held in Ho Chi Minh City on October 8-9, Don Lam said that more than 130 foreign investors have been attending the event with speakers coming from various industries and fields, technology startups, industrial corporations and large financial institutions. - President of the Fifth Review Conference of the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention (APMBC), also known as the Ottawa Convention, Ly Thuch on October 9 praised Vietnam's efforts in addressing consequences of unexploded ordnances (UXO), and the country’s achievements in cooperation with other countries and international organisations in this field.

In a meeting in New York with Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the UN, Ly Thuch, who is also Senior Minister and Vice President of the Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority (CMAA), expressed empathy for difficulties and challenges Vietnamese agencies are facing in clearing and cleaning areas contaminated with bombs and mines left over from wars. - Three female Vietnamese entrepreneurs have been named in the list of the Most Powerful Women Asia 2024 (MPW Asia) announced by US magazine Fortune.
