Hundreds of people from the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD), known as the ‘red shirts, rallied in front of Thailand’s Government House on July 21, for a revised constitution and the dissolution of the Lower House.

The protesters demanded that the constitution be amended as recommended by the parliamentary committee on reconciliation, political reform and constitutional amendment and called for the dissolution of the Lower House to make way for a general election, the Bangkok Post newspaper online reported.

The red-shirts also demanded that Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban and Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya step down.

They called for people to sign up to support a petition for a royal pardon for former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra.

The protesters said they would continue their rally until US Secretary of State Hilary Clinton meets Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva at the Government House in the afternoon./.
