The newly-formed ASEAN Businesswomen Network made its debut at a conference held in Hanoi on April 22.

The building of the network, which is expected to promote economic cooperation both within ASEAN and with other countries, was highlighted in the ASEAN Culture-Society Community’s master plan for the period of 2011-2015.

The network is designed to boost the development of small- and medium-sized enterprises in the region at a time of increasing integration ahead of the establishment of the ASEAN Common Community by 2015.

It also aims to enhance gender equality and the empowerment of women in the region, towards bringing peace, stability and prosperity to Southeast Asia in the future.

Participants at the conference expressed their hope that the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC), the ASEAN Committee on Women, and their regional and international partners will further cooperate and support the network’s upcoming activities in order to give women real power, thus bringing them better living conditions in the future.-VNA
