The ASEAN – Pakistan Joint Sectoral Cooperation Committee (APJSCC) held its fifth meeting in Jakarta, Indonesia on June 1.

Deputy General Secretary of ASEAN for Community and Corporate Affairs, Bagas Hapsoro and Pakistani Additional Secretary for Foreign Affairs (Asia-Pacific), Syed Hasan Javed co-chaired the session.

The meeting discussed the developments in Asia, especially the global financial crisis, democratic process consolidation, economic revival the economy and successes in solving problems relating to terrorism and extremism.

Additionally, attendants also exchanged views on progresses that member countries reaped in various cooperation fields, from economy to socio-cultural issues while referring to new potential cooperative fields. They all came to an agreement that the APJSCC meeting is an efficient mechanism to help boost mutual cooperation.

Speaking at the meeting, the Pakistani Additional Foreign Secretary said Pakistan places great emphasis on relations with ASEAN, heading to tighter cooperation in culture and economy, thus supporting multifaceted connections and integration of the bloc. He also proposed that Pakistan act as a bridge for investment and trade between ASEAN and Middle Asia markets.

The sixth APJSCC session is scheduled to take place in the end of 2012./.
