Secretary-General of ASEAN Le Luong Minh has met with Secretary-General of the ASEAN-Korea Centre (AKC) Chung Hae-Moon in Jakarta to discuss the future of cooperation between ASEAN and the Republic of Korea (RoK).

During the meeting, Mr. Chung introduced his centre’s 2015 Work Programme which focuses on promoting ASEAN-RoK cooperation in the fields of trade, tourism, connectivity and cultural exchange.

He expressed his hope that the AKC and the ASEAN Secretariat would work closely towards a stronger bilateral cooperation.

On his part, Secretary-General Minh congratulated the AKC on the fruitful 2014 with various activities successfully undertaken to celebrate the 25 th anniversary of ASEAN-RoK dialogue relations.

He stressed the need to follow-up the outcomes of the ASEAN-RoK Commemorative Summit in Busan on December last year during the process of ties enhancement.

He also highlighted the significant role of the AKC in the implementation of both sides’ decisions and initiatives, adding that the ASEAN Secretariat is willing to coordinate with the AKC in a joint effort to strengthen ASEAN-RoK friendship and realise the ASEAN Community’s Post 2015 Vision.

ASEAN and the RoK signed a memorandum of understanding to officially establish the ASEAN-Korea Centre in Singapore on November 17, 2007.

The Seoul-headquartered AKC aims to foster trade volume, investment flow and cultural exchange between the pair.-VNA
