Over 130 domestic and foreign delegates were brought together at a workshop held in the central city of Hue on November 29-30 to seek solutions to the sustainable future of Asian cities.

Organised by the Regional Network of Local Authorities for the Management of Human Settlements (CityNet), the event offered a good chance for participants to discuss a range of topics such as “future cities”, “green cities in Asia”, “smart urban traffic”.

Delegates also introduced the best models to build environmentally-friendly cities at both regional and global scales, and called for multilateral cooperation in Asia-Pacific.

Through the event, CityNet defined opportunities and challenges facing its members in the new development trend, thus seeking feasible orientations for the prosperity of the network as well as the sustainable development of Asian cities.

Established in 1987, CityNet is home to 122 members, including 81 municipal authorities and 41 non-governmental organisations. Vietnam has five CitiNet members, namely Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Hue, Da Nang and Hai Phong.

Annually, the organisation holds about 25 events, including workshops and training programmes, to address urgent issues related to urban development and planning, environmental protection and climate change adaptation.-VNA
