The 24 th Asia-Pacific Roundtable (APR) opened in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on June 8, discussing security challenges and ways to enhance all-sided security cooperation in the region.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak said in the international context of fast changes, countries in the Asia-Pacific region should be ready for encountering challenges in the coming decade.

The region should define and implement a regional structure that looks to promote advancements of the people living in the region in particular and around the world in general, he said.

The two-day event brought together more than 200 scholars and policymakers in the region.

The participants had in-depth discussions on China and Japan ’s foreign policies, the US ’s orientations of intervention in Asia, political developments in Myanmar , security in the Korean peninsula and outstanding issues in Asia .

Vietnamese officials took part in the event with presentations on ASEAN integration, anti-rebellion and national building in Afghanistan , and India ’s involvement in East Asia./.
