Da Nang (VNA) – The Da Nang Hospital announced on March 31 that its department of neurology – musculoskeletal – clinical hematology has successfully performed an autologous stem cell transplant for a patient with multiple myeloma.
This marked the third autologous stem cell transplant conducted at the hospital.
Dr. Tran Thi Thanh Huong, who directly performed the surgery, said this is an advanced treatment method that rapidly restores the patient's hematopoietic system after high-dose chemotherapy, helping to prevent life-threatening complications.
This technique offers a significant chance of survival and improves the quality of life for patients with malignant hematologic diseases such as lymphoma, myeloproliferative disorders, multiple myeloma, and leukemia, she added.
Previously, in 2023, the Da Nang Hospital successfully performed its first autologous stem cell transplant with the support of the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion.
