Botswana wishes to cooperate with VN in agriculture, IT, health care

Hanoi (VNA) – Botswana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Vincent T. Seretse has expressed his wish to foster collaboration with Vietnam in the fields of agriculture, information technology and health care.

At a meeting with Vietnamese Deputy Foreign Minister Vu Hong Nam during his working visit to Botswana on May 21-22, Vincent spoke highly of Vietnam’s foreign policy of independence and self-reliance and stressed the importance of compliance with international law.

He promised to consider support for Vietnam’s candidacy for a non-permanent seat at the UN Security Council for 2020-2021.

Nam congratulated Botswana on its development achievements and discussed with his host measures to strengthen bilateral relations and prepare for the celebration of the 10th anniversary of diplomatic ties (February 2009-2019)

The two sides agreed to soon sign an agreement on economic, cultural, educational, scientific and technical cooperation and another on visa exemption for diplomatic and official passport holders in order to facilitate the exchange of all-level delegations and business connections between their enterprises.

On the occasion, Nam conveyed a letter of President Tran Dai Quang to President Mokgweetsi Masini proposing Botswana back Vietnam’s bid to become a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2020-2021.

Located in southern Africa, Botswana has an area of over 600,000 sq.km and a population of more than 2 million. Last year, the country’s GDP reached 36.6 billion USD, with an annual per capita income of 18,000 USD.-VNA
