Buddhists from 80 countries join ‘World Vesak Day’ in Thailand

Buddhist dignitaries from 80 different countries around the world have joined the World Vesak Day Celebration, held in Thailand’s Ayutthaya province.

As the president of International Council of theUnited Nations Day of Vesak (ICUNDV), Dr. Phra Dharmakosajarn, Rector ofMahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University (MCU) in Thailand, on thisoccasion, said Vesak Celebration has for years been held to celebratethe Lord Buddha’s birthday and his enlightenment as well ascommemorating his passing.

It is also considered an international celebration day, he added.

Meanwhile,Somdet Phra Maharatchamongkhalachan said that Vesak Day is importantfor Buddhists around the world. Moreover, the UN has designated this dayas one the world's most important days, during which many religiousactivities are held.-VNA
