Ca Mau village wins children’s football tournament

A team from the SOS Children’s Village in southernmost Ca Mau province on May 28 emerged victorious from Vietnam’s 2014 national football tournament for underprivileged children.

The Ca Mau SOS teamlifted the trophy following a sweeping 6-1 victory over a team from VietTri city, northern Phu Tho province, in the final.

Thecompetition, which took place in northern Thai Binh province from May23-28, was jointly held by the Nhi Dong (Children) newspaper and thenon-governmental organisation SOS Children’s Villages in Vietnam.

Sponsored by the PetroVietnam Exploration Production Corporation(PVEP), the tournament attracted 14 teams from SOS villages nationwide.

Teams from northern Hai Phong city and Go Vap district (Ho Chi MinhCity) bagged runners-up medals. Nguyen Duc Vu of the Ca Mau team wasnamed the best goalkeeper of the competition, while the golden bootaward went to the prolific Nguyen Van Dong of the Hanoi team.-VNA

Golf tournament marks 50 years of Vietnam–Germany ties

The annual event, aimed at strengthening ties between the Vietnamese community and German friends, gathered over 100 golfers, including the Vietnamese Embassy staff, Lao Ambassador Mayboua Xayavong, representatives from the Japanese Embassy, German friends, sponsors, and others from golf clubs across the country.
