The ruling Cambodian People's Party (CPP) took the lead in the municipal, provincial and district council elections held on May 18.
According to the official results released by the National Election Committee on May 27, the CPP won 2,643 out of the country's 3,324 seats, accounting for 73 percent of the total vote.
The main opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) came second with a total of 769 seats, making up over 26 percent.
The FUNCINPEC Party got a total of 20 seats, with only one seat at municipal/provincial level, while the League for Democracy Party received just one seat, which is at district level.
Speaking at a press conference on May 18, CNRP President Sam Rainsy pledged to acknowledge the result.
The elections were organised in 197 voting units across the country under the supervision of about 846 observers and 687 representatives from the political parties.-VNA
