Hanoi (VNA) - Cambodia's tourism revenue reached 4.92 billion USD in 2019, a year-on-year increase of 13 percent, according to the Ministry of Tourism’s report released on February 26.

Cambodia attracted 6.61 million international tourists in 2019, up 6.6 percent from the previous year, the report said.

China was the biggest source of tourists to Cambodia with 2.36 million Chinese visiting the Southeast Asian country, a year-on-year rise of 16.7 percent. It was followed by neighbouring Vietnam and Thailand.

The tourism sector, one of the four sectors supporting the economy, contributed 12.1 percent to Cambodia's gross domestic product (GDP) last year, according to the report.

The Ministry of Tourism forecast that the country is likely to receive 6.45 million international tourists this year, a year on year drop of 2.4 percent due to the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak.

Two days earlier, Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen announced that the government decided to provide all kinds of tax breaks for all hotels and guesthouses in northwestern Siem Reap province for a period of four months from February to May.

The PM said the tax exemption was aimed at helping them overcome this difficult moment./.
