Cambodia heeds staff training for tourism

Cambodia is focusing on perfecting infrastructure and human resources in order to help its tourism sector fulfil the target of welcoming 7-7.5 million arrivals by 2020.
Cambodia is focusing on perfecting infrastructure and humanresources in order to help its tourism sector fulfil the target ofwelcoming 7-7.5 million arrivals by 2020.

Accordingto Tit Chantha, Secretary of State of the Tourism Ministry, the countryis exerting every effort to bolster the spearhead sector, which isexpected to blossom once the ASEAN Economic Community is formed in 2015.

To reach the aforesaid goal, Cambodia needs toprovide trainings for 30,000-40,000 tourism workers each year with theaim to raise the total number from the current 350,000 to 800,000 by2020.

The country has been coordinating withdomestic and EU organisations in training about 1,500 experts in thefield within the next three years.

According to theministry’s statistics, arrivals to Cambodia numbered 3.5 million in 2012and is expected to hit 4 million this year.-VNA
