Cambodia has stepped up cooperation with the Republic of Korea (RoK) to dispatch more labourers to the country in a bid to improve the quality of its workforce and increase foreign currency revenues.

According to Cambodian Minister of Labour and Vocational Training Ith Samheng, more than 6,000 Cambodian workers have been sent to the RoK so far this year.

He said that 2012 saw the largest number of Cambodian guest workers to the RoK, with 18,000, in comparison with over 7,000 in 2013. The figure for 2014 is expected to exceed that of last year.

Since 2007, the number of Cambodian workers in the RoK has totaled 34,000, mainly working in the fields of fisheries, agriculture and construction with an average wage of over 1,000 USD per month.

The wage is expected to increase to 1,200 USD in the future.-VNA
