Assessing the relationship between the Vietnam People’s Army and the RCAF, General Sao Sokha emphasised that this is a long-standing friendship, formed and nurtured through trying times in history, from the struggles for national independence to the fight against the genocidal Pol Pot regime.

He said the geographical, historical, and human bonds between the two neighbouring countries have laid a solid foundation for continuously strengthening this relationship, enabling the two peoples to live together in peace and development.

Regarding the role of Military Region 9, the official stated that during the process of building military to safeguard independence in each nation, the Military Region 9 armed forces have offered significant and practical assistance to the RCAF. This support includes personnel training, delegation exchanges, information sharing, as well as finance and technical equipment.

Given its geographical location adjacent to Cambodia, Sao Sokha noted, Military Region 9 serves as a vivid symbol of the special solidarity and close-knit friendship between the two countries and their militaries.

He noted the Mekong River, stretching 4,000 km through six countries, from its upper reaches in China through Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and finally the Mekong Delta of Vietnam, brings tremendous value to agriculture, waterway transportation, the economy, and the cultures of communities living along its banks.

Therefore, the countries must cooperate to protect all these natural resources, not only for the present generation but also for future ones, he stressed./.
