Can Tho meeting marks 60 years of Vietnam – Laos diplomatic ties

A meeting was held in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho on September 4 on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of Vietnam – Laos diplomatic ties, the 45th anniversary of the signing of the Vietnam – Laos Treaty of Amity and Cooperation, and the Vietnam – Laos Year of Solidarity and Friendship 2022.

CanTho (VNA) – A meeting was held in the Mekong Delta city of CanTho on September 4 on the occasion of the 60th anniversary ofVietnam – Laos diplomatic ties, the 45th anniversary of the signingof the Vietnam – Laos Treaty of Amity and Cooperation, and  the Vietnam – Laos Yearof Solidarity and Friendship 2022.

Speakingat the event, Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen ThucHien said the municipal authorities and people always regard traditionalfriendship and solidarity with Laos as an important diplomatic factor in internationalrelations for national defence and development of the twocountries.

Hien pointed out Can Tho has assisted Lao localities in various areas like agriculture,fisheries, education, trade and tourism. It provided 14 scholarships worthnearly 2 billion VND (86,900 USD) for the Lao provinces of Savannakhet and Champasak whileholding regular cultural and people-to-people exchanges.

CanTho always offers all possible support to the cooperation with Laos, he added.

Hewished that Lao Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City Phimpha Keomixay will facilitatetwinning programmes between Can Tho and Lao localities, especially Savannakhetand Champasak – the two provinces that Can Tho signed cooperation memoranda ofunderstanding.

CanTho will continue following the plan of the Party Central Committee’sSecretariat on implementing the Vietnam – Laos agreement on expanding collaborationin the fields of delegation exchange, education, people-to-people exchange,trade promotion and investment attraction, Hien said.

Keomixay,for her part, wished that the bilateral special relationship will be nurtured by the twocountries’ generations of people.

On the occasion, the municipal chapter of the Vietnam– Laos Friendship Association joined hands with the Vietnam Union of FriendshipOrganisations, departments and agencies to hold a series of activities to celebrate the bilateral relations./.

Tien Giang steps up efforts to eliminate substandard houses

According to the Tien Giang People’s Committee, 485 homes for policy beneficiaries, families of war martyrs, and low-income households will be supported. Of these, 284 new homes will be built, and 201 existing ones repaired, with a total budget of 24.1 billion VND (about 984,000 USD). As of March 6, construction had started on 166 houses, with 32 already completed.

Bac Giang to eliminate substandard houses by November

Local authorities have identified 795 homes of poor and near-poor households and individuals with recognised service to the nation that qualify for support. Of these, 475 require complete reconstruction and 320 need significant repairs, with estimated costs totaling 39 billion VND (1.53 million USD).
