HCM City meeting marks 60th anniversary of Vietnam-Laos ties

A meeting was held in Ho Chi Minh City on August 30 to mark the 60th founding anniversary of the Vietnam-Laos diplomatic relations (September 5, 1962-2022) and 45 years of the Vietnam-Laos Treaty of Amity and Cooperation (July 18, 1977-2022).

HCM City (VNA) – A meeting was held in Ho ChiMinh City on August 30 to mark the 60th founding anniversary of theVietnam-Laos diplomatic relations (September 5, 1962-2022) and 45 years of theVietnam-Laos Treaty of Amity and Cooperation (July 18, 1977-2022).

Addressing the event, Secretary of the Party Committee of HoChi Minh City Nguyen Van Nen reviewed the close ties between the two countriesthroughout the history as well as the great solidarity and the rare loyal friendshipbetween Vietnam and Laos.

Nen said that over the past 45 years, the Vietnam-LaosTreaty of Amity and Cooperation has served as an important foundation andframework for the two countries to expand and deepen their friendship andall-round partnership.

Over the past 60 years, despite changes in the worldsituation and international relations, the brotherhood, sincere friendship,loyal comradeship and great solidarity of the two Parties, countries and peopleshave grown strongly, he said.

Nen expressed belief that the partnership between Vietnamand Laos in general and the collaboration between Ho Chi Minh City and Laolocalities will be evergreen.

On behalf of Lao localities, Governor of Savannakhetprovince Santiphap Phomvihan affirmed that the ties between Vietnam and Laos,founded and fostered by President Ho Chi Minh and President Kaysone Phomvihane, have becomea priceless asset and an existence and development rule of both countries and adecisive factor of the success of the revolution in each country.

The Party, State and people of Laos always remember that onevery battlefield in Laos, there is the sweat and blood of Vietnamese experts and volunteer soldiers mixed with blood and sweat of Lao soldiers and people,he said.

Earlier, leaders of Ho Chi Minh City, Laos’ Vientiane andChampasak and Savannakhet provinces paid floral tribute to President Ho Chi Minh atthe late leader’s monument in Nguyen Hue Street, and visited an exhibition onpolitical, economic, social and cultural activities of Vietnam, Laos, HCM Cityand Lao localities over the past 60 years.

Also on August 30, the Vietnam-Laos Friendship Associationof Hanoi convened its fifth congress for the 2022-2027 tenure. The congress electeda standing board with 35 members led by Chu Hong Minh, Secretary of the Ho ChiMinh Communist Youth Union of Hanoi./.
