Central Highlands provinces are striving to provide farmland andresidential land to almost all ethnic minority households in the regionby 2015.
According to the Steering Committeefor the Central Highlands, there are more than 30,000 ethnic minorityhouseholds in the region in need of farmland and residential land, whichamounts to 17,000ha.
The worst situations have been recorded inGia Lai, Lam Dong and Dak Lak provinces, due to the underperformance oflocal authorities in devising measures to overcome land deficiencies.Meanwhile, spontaneous migration has put further pressure on landprovision.
To tackle the problem, the regionalprovinces plan to reclaim agricultural and forest land that has beenused inefficiently or for the wrong purposes in order to give it to thetarget group.
The localities will continue toinvolve communities in protecting forests, while providing them withjobs at plantations and offering them vocational training.
Since 2002, the Central Highlands provinces – Gia Lai, Kon Tum, DakLak, Dak Nong and Lam Dong – have provided over 30,000ha of land forsome 74,970 ethnic minority households.-VNA
