A number of construction projects underway in the Middle East and Africa are opening up opportunities for exporters worldwide, including Vietnam.

The information was released at a seminar entitled “Middle East – Africa market: potentials and opportunities”, organised by the Trade Promotion Agency in Ho Chi Minh City on July 12.

At the event, Ly Quoc Hung, Head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade’s Africa , West and South Asia Market Department, called on the Vietnamese businesses to step up marketing activities, conduct market surveys, join biddings for construction projects, and seek more chances to export construction materials.

Many experts suggested that the Vietnamese firms should take advantage of the serious shortage of cement in Western Africa, which is currently mainly sourced from China and Turkey .

Other promising markets are Arab Saudi, United Arab Emirates and Kuwait .

During the first six months of this year, Vietnam earned 1.4 billion USD from exports to the Middle East , with key items like seafood, fiber, mobile phones, garment, footwear and farm produce.

Vietnam has export-import links with 55 African countries. Last year, the country’s exports to the region hit 3.5 billion USD, up over 92 percent.-VNA
