China, Cambodia boost “Belt and Road” initiatives

Chinese President Xi Jinping and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen agreed to boost bilateral cooperation under the framework of Beijing's Belt and Road initiatives on April 23.
Chinese President Xi Jinping and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Senagreed to boost bilateral cooperation under the framework of Beijing'sBelt and Road initiatives on April 23.

Speaking in a meeting withPM Hun Sen held on the sidelines of the Asian-African Conference, theChinese President highlighted that the bilateral relations are rife withopportunities.

He added that beyond bolstering collaboration intraditional areas, the two countries should intensify their cooperationin infrastructure interconnectivity under the framework of the Silk RoadEconomic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road initiatives,and maintain proper operations of the Sihanoukville Port SpecialEconomic Zone.

For his part, Hun Sen express hiscountry’s willingness to push forward cooperation with China insocio-economic development, continuing to say Cambodia is ready tocooperate with China under the Belt and Road framework.

He also pledged to maintain communication and coordination with China onregional and global issues of mutual concern and support dialogue andcooperation between ASEAN and China.-VNA

Malaysia's layoffs rise 47% in first quarter

The report, based on figures from Malaysia’s Social Security Organisation, showed layoffs peaked in January with around 10,700 cases before easing to 7,500 in February and 5,900 in March. Despite the slowdown toward the end of the quarter, the total remained significantly higher than the roughly 16,500 layoffs recorded in the same period of 2025.
