Hanoi (VNA) – Chinese President Xi Jinping and his Philippine counterpart Rodrigo Duterte held a telephone talk on May 3 to discuss bilateral relations and regional issues of mutual concern.

The two leaders met twice in 2016 and reached important agreements that greatly improved their bilateral ties.

China and the Philippines now are strengthening political trust and multi-faceted cooperation.

Regarding the tension on the Korean Peninsula, Xi Jinping urged all sides to stay calm and resume talks.

For his part, President Rodrigo Duterte was pleased to see Philippines – China friendship and solidarity enhanced while their exchanges and cooperation in various areas restored and pushed forward.

The two countries signed 13 deals worth 13.5 billion USD covering trade, culture, tourism, drug combat and maritime transport during Philippine President Duterte’s visit to China in October last year. – VNA
