The number of Chinese tourists to Thailand may drop as a result of a new tourism regulation that makes package tour prices higher, Thai Business Information Centre in China reported on October 9. The regulation, which was took effect on October 8 in China , bars tour operators from adding non-advertised extras to packaged tours and increasing tourists' expenses. The costs of the packages must be all-inclusive, covering travel, accommodation, visa costs and tour guides. Violators will be fined.

The regulation has made some tour operators in China almost double their package prices. Some tour companies have increased their prices for one-week trips to Thailand and certain ASEAN countries like Singapore or Malaysia from 30,600 THB to 51,100 THB that could reduce the number of Chinese tourists visiting Thailand , the centre said.

Chinese top the list of visitors to Thailand as their interest in the country has increased in recent time.-VNA
