Hanoi (VNA) – Leaders of many countries around the world have continued to send letters and messages of congratulations to General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee Nguyen Phu Trong on his election as President of Vietnam.
In her message, Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (UK) extended her warmest congratulations to the new President and people of Vietnam and expressed her wish to strengthen the relationship between the two countries.
Other congratulations also came from President of the State of Palestine and Chairman of the Palestine Liberation Organisation Executive Committee Mahmoud Abbas, King Carl Gustaf R of Sweden, and President of Uzbekistan S. Mirziyoyev.
The 14th Vietnamese National Assembly on October 23 elected Nguyen Phu Trong as President of Vietnam.
After the results of the vote were announced, the new President had a swearing-in ceremony, vowing to stay absolutely loyal to the nation, people, and the Constitution of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and to exert every effort to complete all missions assigned by the Party, State, and people. –VNA
