Hanoi (VNA) – Management boards and contractors have concentrated all resources to complete the North-South expressway sub-projects on schedule.

Three sub-projects to be completed on schedule 

According the Construction Investment Management Department under the Ministry of Transportation, all three the North-South expressway sub-projects in the 2017-2020 period, including Mai Son-National Highway No.45, Vinh Hao-Phan Thiet, and Phan Thiet-Dau Giay, have been basically completed and are scheduled for technically opening to traffic on December 31, 2022. The average workload of the three sub-projects has met 76.3% of the total value.

Dang Hung Thai, Director of the Phan Thiet-Dau Giay Expressway Management Board, said that the entire route has completed the concreting of nearly 90km, reaching about 92% of the project’s workload, and installed 70km of median strips.

For the Mai Son-National Highway No.45 sub-project, contractors have completed 8.27 km out of 21 km of the road’s foundation and surface, constructed 230,000 tonnes of asphalt, and installed traffic safety system and frontage roads.

Although the progress of these sub-projects was seriously affected by impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, adverse weather, and fluctuations in material prices, however, the contractors have determined to mobilise all resources to complete the works as planned.

In order to ensure the sub-projects’ completion before April 30, 2023, the department has requested investors, contractors to ensure human resources and machines to carry out new projects while promptly develop plans to provide and maintain financial resources for the construction to meet the required progress.

In addition, the department suggested the project management boards to make detailed plans on the implementation of volume and work items on daily, weekly and monthly basics of each bidding package.

On that basis, the Project Management Boards direct the contractors to concentrate all their resources, take advantage of favourable weather to construct the foundation layers and road surface; finish the building of taluses; and install traffic safety systems as soon as the construction site is available.

Devising detailed plans for the construction

After the groundbreaking ceremonies of 12 North-South expressway sub-projects in the 2021-2025 period earlier this year, the project management boards and contractors simultaneously launched the works to ensure the projects’ completion as planned.

For the contractor of Bung-Van Ninh section, a representative of Joint Stock Company 471 said that after the groundbreaking ceremony, the unit has mobilised more than 20 engineers and workers with adequate machines to the construction site.

A representative of the Department of Planning and Investment under the Ministry of Transport, it is expected that the capital allocated for the Eastern North-South Expressway sub-projects in the 2021-2025 period will be about 44 trillion VND (1.9 billion USD), and the disbursement progress will be promptly guaranteed when the acceptance procedures are completed.

The project management boards have been asked to work closely with localities, ministries, and sectors to ensure the handover of cleared grounds in the second quarter this year while completing the procedures for mining building materials and dumping sites to secure sufficient reserves and quality and quality of works according to regulations.

The North - South Expressway, which has high transport capacity, high speed and safety and connecting economic centres from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City, runs through 20 provinces and cities. It is expected to facilitate the country’s efforts to achieve economic development targets in the current time.

The project in the 2021-2025 has a total length of 729 km in length and divided into 12 component projects operating independently in the public investment form, with total capital of nearly 147 trillion VND (6.5 billion USD)./.
